Here it is...

...two years ago today, Audrey and I were wed on a similarly blustery and cold afternoon. Nearly two years ago, we were soaking in the tubs with Lydia, Galen, and Matty, drinking mimosas and eating chocolates sitting by the pool before lunch. Nearly two years ago, we sat in Parisian cafes, sipping espressos and window shopping or driving to the Brittany coast for a week. Nearly two years ago, our lives were as open and full of possibility as we could ever have imagined them.

Nearly one year ago, Audrey confided in me that she was pregnant. Nearly one year ago, all of that open possibility, that infinite array of "what ifs" all switched gears from 1st to 4th without popping the clutch. Nearly one year ago, a whole new world of infinite possibilities came into view, more than we could ever have imagined.

Now, here it is, October 28, 2008, another cold blustery evening with the remains of this mornings snow flurries long melted, the wood stove whispering away behind the radio, and our son comfortably sleeping away the early hours of the evening in our bed. Audrey and I are very nearly relaxing into a stupor from our soaking at the Spa at the Grove Park Inn in celebration of our 2 year anniversary. The winds are still whipping about outside, pulling the last of the walnuts and chestnuts leaves down, creating a rusted blanket to put the earth to sleep for our short winter season.

The evenings will begin coming a little earlier in just a few days as day light savings time ends/begins (I can never remember which time of year is which). The mornings will greet us a little more brightly as we rise from our familial slumber. The days will be cooler, some even cooler than today. And through each of these days, and all the ones to follow, the subtle dance of our family will begin to gain momentum, increasing in the complexity of its movements, and will bring with each step, each twirl, and each dip, a clearer view of the infinite possibilities that we still can't even imagine.
